Drain Clearing

Drain clearing  | Unblocking Pipes

How do I know when I need drain clearing | Pipe Unblocking?

Sewer and drain backups are never pleasant and can result in considerable damage to a building and its contents. Blockages are often caused by drains receiving waste they were never intended to carry. Nappies, sanitary napkins, and towels are too large for most drains and sewers to handle. Other common drain blockers are hair, string, rocks, mud, construction debris, leaves, bottle caps and toys. Tree Roots & F.O.G.(Fats, Oils & Grease) are among the worst culprits for causing pipe blockages. Sewers & drains, even when installed perfectly, are subject to blockages over time, as the pipe corrode, erode or build up with crud. Many times this situation is made worse when the sewer or drain pipes have “backfall”. Back fall is a condition when pipes slope uphill, causing waste water to work against gravity and pool within the pipe. Pipes with back fall require frequent cleaning and inspection.

Tree Roots In Pipes require drain clearing| Jetblasting | pipe unblocking:

Tree Roots are attracted to water vapor emitting from cracks in pipes. Tree roots can easily penetrate even the smallest cracks or openings in pipes. Tree roots thrive in the warm, moist, nutrient rich environment found inside sewer pipes. As tree roots grow they can quickly fill a pipe, causing complete blockage. As tree roots grow, they expand and exert considerable pressure on the pipe. The force exerted by tree roots will often split or crack or colapse the pipe, resulting in total failure of the sewer. Roots cut by sewer augers often grow back quickly, similar to pruned tree branches.

FOG (Fats, Oils, Grease) is a common pipe blocking substance. FOG is a byproduct of cooking food. FOG is present in food scraps, meat fats, cooking oil, lard, butter, sauces & dairy products, among other foods. All too often, FOG is washed into the drainage system through kitchen sinks & garbage disposers. Eventually FOG coagulates, and then sticks to the insides of drain pipes. Over time this build up causes complete blockage of a sewer drain. FOG is a particular problem in commercial cooking establishments with inadequate FOG control measures, such as well maintained grease interceptors.

Some plumbers use an electric eel this will make an opening through a blockage, allowing the pipe to temporarily drain. Although the pipe may drain, considerable buildup may still be present on the walls of the pipe. This is especially true where FOG (fats, oils, grease) is the cause of the blockage. An effective way to scour the pipe walls is by cleaning it with a high pressure jet blaster. High pressure water above 4000psi blasts the residue from the pipe walls, leaving a much cleaner, better flowing pipe. Aqua King has a large arsenal of Jet blasting equipment, ranging from smaller petrol engine machines to our large truck mounted machine.

After the drain pipes have been Jet blasted, Aqua King always carrys out a CCTV camera inspection of the sewer or drain lines to ensure effective cleaning and to locate potential problems, such a broken, misaligned pipes, or pipe with backfall.
